The Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, asked Senior Advocate Maninder Singh to serve a copy of his petition to the government of Punjab and scheduled a hearing for Friday.
An application for a court-monitored probe into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach during his visit to Punjab on Wednesday will be heard by the Supreme Court on Friday.
During a hearing before Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, Senior Advocate Maninder Singh was asked to serve a copy of his petition to the Punjab government and that it would be heard on Friday.
The bench needs to ensure that what happened is not repeated and Singh urged it to take up the plea.
A bench member asked him what he expected the court to do in this matter.
According to Singh, the incident was a serious lapse and unacceptable security breach, and given the political climate in the state, an investigation must be conducted by the court into the police bandobast. In addition, he said, this would ensure that such incidents would not recur.
