Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp announced a new feature on iOS that shows profile pictures of message senders in notifications. The update will be available for both direct and group chats.
A new feature has reportedly been tested by Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp on iOS, which displays profiles in system notifications when users receive messages from chats and groups.
This feature has started rolling out for iOS beta testers of WhatsApp who are running iOS 15 and version 2.22.1.1 of the app.
In notifications, the profile picture of a person will appear. Both individual and group notifications will show the DP.
“WhatsApp is releasing profile photos in notifications for people that use at least the 2.22.1.1 beta on iOS 15. Since this feature has been enabled to some beta testers, it may be needed some time before being enabled for your WhatsApp account,” WABetaInfo wrote on its website.
The company recently added a privacy update to prevent unknown contacts from seeing a user’s last seen and online status.
WhatsApp users can set their “last seen” status to be visible to everyone, including their contacts, but not to people on a blacklist.
Both Android and iOS devices are reportedly compatible with this new feature.
