Alka Mittal becomes first woman CMD at ONGC

The first woman to serve as a full-time director of ONGC, Alka Mittal has taken over as the company’s Director-HR since December 2018.

Alka Mittal, ONGC‘s director of human resources, took over as CEO and MD of the company on Monday, becoming the first woman to hold that position at a Maharatna company. Subhash Kumar superannuated on December 31 and Mittal replaced him.

The first woman to hold a full-time directorship on the board of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Mittal was appointed to the post of Director-HR in December 2018.

ONGC has not appointed a full-time CMD since Shashi Shanker retired in March last year. The Public Enterprises Selection Board interviewed nine candidates, including two IAS officers, in June but did not select any of them for the top post, instead announcing that a search committee would be set up to find a new CMD for ONGC.
